The image was made on a fragment of plywood from a skip. There is a combination of acrylic thin washes, clays and sands from the site. 15x13x1cm unframed. A thin layer of primer applied with gestures to imply the arc of cool air just before sunrise.
Blackthorn winter froth...a wonderful moment in the year. And the palette was a gentle optimistic one. This was made in Lodmoor Nature Reserve where a particular Swan (very used to being fed by humans) became an excellent model.

Made on location in a lively breeze...strong contre jour. A cream tinted Ingres paper upon which I could add the bright white of the breaking waves. Unframed. The cost of postage is not included in this price.
This piece is richly encrusted with the red and white chalk of those remarkable cliffs. The coarse matter in the foreground is Carr stone...coarser than the chalk. This began in 2011 in a portrait format. I returned with the piece along the same shoreline over time. It is a constantly mobile bit of coast so it seemed absolutely appropriate to 'over-write' radically according to the conditions. Watercolour. 43x31cm Going onto the beach in the relative cool pre dawn I was met with playful frisky dogs...as soon as the sun rose they set about sleeping within reach of their supply of food. Here they are having found comfortable niches in the fishing nets.
In March 2020 this was one of the last site visits I made before travel was denied. I sat up on the hillside just above the stream of visitors as the morning sun behind the arch created intense contre jour... a remarkable green/turquoise reflection shimmered in the water. Chalk fragments were scattered around me...they are often tossed out by rabbits.…
