Norfolk Spring 2016 OLD HUNSTANTON - revisited 2020
TWO JOINTS work in progress in the sunshine…you can see how I’m building layers…only a tiny bit of the turquoise shines through the finished piece… TWO JOINTS – SANDY CARRSTONE. OLD HUNSTANTON. True gesso and gouache with cliff materials on handmade cotton rag paper. 16x22cm
Those remarkable red and white chalk cliffs at Hunstanton and the open spaciousness of the Norfolk coast familiar from childhood tempted me back. I used mainly local materials and added watercolour, gouache and acrylic to work outside in all the weather February offered. The rich red, orange and rich umber pigments from the cliffs, green blue sea- opera pink sunsets, snow storms curling in at sea are all recorded in the work.
